Level 4 @ S3

The level 4 course continues to build on pupils literacy skills with the emphasis on how these literacy skills should be transferred from the English classroom and used to improve their performance across the curriculum.

Reading

The course provides pupils with the opportunity to explore a variety of texts such as novel, play, poetry, film and nonfiction texts.

Reading tasks will be varied and assessment for learning methodology will be employed to increase the impact of text. Close reading tasks and creation of written response to text will be tackled by candidates.

Individual and group work will be experienced by our S3 candidates.

Pupils will continue to compile a folio of evidence which will be used to plan course of study in S4.

There will be opportunities to produce expressive and transactional writing.

Talking

The S3 course continues to encourage pupils to think critically and to express themselves within a variety of contexts.

Part of this is the the ability to listen others and contribute to class using talking and listening skills.

Talk will help candidates clarify their thoughts, express ideas, and also point of view.

The ability to listen is key to understanding the opinions and ideas expressed by others.

Continued development of listening skills will continue to feature throughout our course of study.

National 4

Equivalent to General level at Standard Grade, the National 4 course consists of four units with an added value practical activity project.
